Story Group

Launched in December 2021, Story Group meets on Thursday afternoons at Making Space, 1 Gilroy Road, West Kirby, Wirral, 1:30pm - 3:30pm. We started weekly and now meet every other week.

Through story play and storytelling skills exercises, the group has been learning the art of oral storytelling and building their confidence for public speaking. Regular members have told stories under Gaia, at Cool Heswall, Wirral Earth Fest, Quirky Tales Storytelling Club, and Apple Avenue Open Day.

As the groups progresses with their storytelling, we now focus on projects as well as storytelling skills. Currently, the group is working on stories to illustrate the history of Wirral.

Story Group is part of the arts and well-being sub-group of Transition Town West Kirby, Mellow Yellow. Anyone is welcome to join us as a regular member … or to drop into sessions as they can.

Definitely something that I can recommend to anyone who wants to get up in front of people and talk as well as developing the skills required to tell stories invented by self and also view critically the stories told by others.”

Phil De Santos

I have enjoyed being part of story group and learning the techniques of telling an effective story.  Sue has always been very encouraging to the group particularly when delivering stories to a public audience.  This has helped me since I started in 2022.”

Trevor Butlin

Story Group has been working for me on several levels. It's helped me to build up my confidence and to develop my ideas in storytelling. Sue is very thorough and inspires the group to work through the varied aspects of the storyteller in small stages which make it extremely accessible. … I feel much more able to talk in front of a group and at the different open stage events we have attended.

Jen Stewart

In this group I have learned to use expression in my description and in the way I use words to write eloquently, and most of all, to love storytelling.”

Bridie Keyse.

As a facilitator, Sue is extremely thorough and organised and encourages her students to take risks within the loose structures that she imposes, thus encouraging us to explore our own boundaries whilst always feeling that we have somewhere safe to land.”
